A proper literature about the topic is yet to come. Still various applications are starting to come up, showing diversity and innovation. As the countadown to TechTextil 2022 in Frankfurt has started, our company Tecnofilati Srl, owner of Resistex Brand, is rubbing the hands to launch officially the Graphene Yarn. And in in the meantime, it’s nice having fun by googling “Graphene” and catching some information about this raw material on which is based our new yarn: Resistex Graphene.
Typing… What is Graphene? Wikipedia says:
The name is derived from “graphite” and the suffix -ene, reflecting the fact that the graphite allotrope of carbon contains numerous double bonds. Each atom in a graphene sheet is connected to its three nearest neighbors by a strong σ-bond, and contributes to a valence band one electron that extends over the whole sheet. This is the same type of bonding seen in carbon nanotubes and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and (partially) in fullerenes and glassy carbon
Typing… What is Graphene used for?
The electronic, optical, thermal and mechanical properties of graphene have opened the door to its many practical commercial applications, which according to experts, will develop dynamically in the next decades. Already today, graphene is considered the successor of silicon in the electronic area. This transparent and flexible conductor can be used to manufacture photovoltaic cells, rollable displays and touch panels as well as LED lights. It also significantly increases the frequency of electromagnetic signals, enabling the production of faster transistors.
About Us… Resistex Graphene
MECHANICAL RESISTANCE
RESISTEX® GRAPHENE has a higher tenacity and abrasion resistance than normal polyester or polyamide yarns.
ANTISTATIC / CONDUCTIVE
The electrical conductivity of yarn depends on the type of fibre and its thickness and can range from 10^3 Ω to 10^6 Ω, placing it in the range of both antistatic and conductive yarns.
THERMOREGULATING
RESISTEX® GRAPHENE can keep the basal body temperature stable, without large temperature fluctuations when there are changes in ambient temperature or during physical exertion.
Performance
Tecnofilati, always with its focus on innovative and performing materials, has developed a new generation of antistatic yarns able to chemically bind graphene to the yarn surface.
The graphene used in these yarns is of the highest quality available on the market, with an accurate control of the atomic layers (average distribution of 6 ÷ 8 atomic layers). The advantage of a chemical bond with the surface of the yarn guarantees, in comparison with a classic coating, excellent resistance to abrasion, washing, and limits the increase in weight of the yarn and its stiffness. The coating dimension is nanometric with respect to the micrometric dimension of the fibres constituting the yarn.
